Holy Spirit OVERVIEW #2
Well, I pray you have a God-given strong desire to be "filled and flooded with God Himself." That is God's [only] plan for us to live the Christian life, and there are 'few' that do so. I want you and me to be one of the 'few.' That is why I listed some Bible references and some excellent books last week, for you to begin reading. And be sure to study through the "abiding room' with Kevin Seacat at http://www.abidingroom.com
Since this life is the life of Christ, imparted to us through the indwelling Holy Spirit, there is absolutely no room for self, or any sin (darkness) at all. In fact, the Bible says that since we are in Christ, we are dead to sin. It is enormously important that we know this, and own it...that we believe that it is actually true for me. You need to know it, and then "CONSIDER" ...that is, count on it. It is an absolute truth because God says it is! It's not confirmed by your experience-in fact, experience seems to deny the reality of it. I believe I am actually and in reality dead to sin because God says that I am, in Christ! It's a function of faith in what God says. So when I 'know' it and 'consider' it true for me...then I can, by faith, submit to the control of the Holy Spirit, who lives in me!
Study repeatedly and carefully the three enormously important chapters Romans 6,7 & 8. I often ask myself as I read, "Do I really believe this?" And answer myself, "YES.!" No one can live under the control of the Holy Spirit without believing and living as "dead to sin....and alive to God." The reason this is so important, is that it is utterly impossible to live so as to please God, in the energy of the flesh. Hard work, serious intent, much study, conferences, musical events, all kinds of meetings, programs, even Bible study & memorization....does not/cannot replace being controlled by the Holy Spirit. We need to use all those means to help us understand how God planned for Him to live His life through us!
Take the time to study and ponder these vital issues so that it is real and exciting in your own life, and then you will be ready to grasp what else is needed, which includes obedience, humility, Romans 12.1&2, the 'few' principle, open eyes, and faith.
More coming up next week.
