WATER IN THE BOAT.
Mark 4.37 says that Jesus was asleep in the boat-while a huge storm raged around them, and the boat was filling with water! It makes me think of the raging storm that is going on today around the world, in nearly every country and in nearly every area of life. Oil hit $139 a barrel today, unemployment is way up, economy is rushing toward a cliff, housing is going south at a rapid pace, and we know quite a few that have recently lost their job. Today, Israel is threatening to attack Iran. In short, the boat is quickly filling with water!
What to do!? Run! Panic! Sell! When these seasoned sailors thought all was lost and that they were going to drown, they looked in the back end of the boat and there was Jesus asleep on a pillow. Think about that! Amazing. So they woke Him up. He quickly yelled for them to man the pumps, grabbed some life preservers and a bucket to bail ....NO, NO --NO!
He simply spoke "Peace, be still," and the storm stopped! And then He said to them (and to us) "Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?"
Have you been in a really scary big storm? Is there water filling your boat right now? Are you thinking of manning the pumps, jumping overboard, trying to find a life preserver......or are we even aware that Jesus is there, and that we can look to Him for what only He can do?
How about a firm grasp on the truth that...."My grace is sufficient for you."
